Although I think this may be a combination of various articles (it doesn't read particularly smoothly or as if it were a single book), the information contained is certainly worth the cost. This author has some good videos up on youtube, so check those out before buying. While I'm not convinced he and I have the same politics, it's a book about building small houses and the reasons for doing so aren't overly emphasized. I have to salute the author for putting this book together in such a practical way.If you've got a $100K or two and want to build a "cozy cabin" of a thousand-or-two square feet with great AirBnB potential, then this is not the book for you, but if you want to carve yourself 200-400 square feet of practical living space for just a few thousand dollars (and a lot of elbow grease), this book could be invaluable.

This book does lack a working table of contents BUT all the info is there even if it's a little hard to find.....go buy some tabs from staples or something.....this is a good book written by an ordinary guy withe lots of good info and how toos, if your the kind of person to flip out over a misspelled word this book is not for you anyway.
Wow, this is a terrific book!!! It will help us as we prepare to build a small cabin, off-grid, someday.

I just love this. I am on a new adventure . Lamar a wonderful way of delivering the info I need! I would turn to him for about anything. I feel he is very good at all his skills in live and gentle on the delivery ..simple love it now if I find my land to make my perfect hide away..it may be Hawaii or southern CA
As to any negative reviews, you can pretty much tell what the book will be like by going to Lamar's YouTube channel (solar cabin channel) and website [...] If you don't like his style or think he is too basic, you will not likely appreciate this book. As a dedicated follower of the solar cabin channel I couldn't be more pleased.
I believe that Lamar Alexander wrote this to genuinely help people learn to live extremely inexpensively. He explains everything in such a straight-forward and clear manner. He has a truly innovative mind, and offers various options/alternatives for saving money on homes/land, energy, appliances and so much more.
This book was even better than I expected. You can tell that the author Lamar Alexander put his heart and soul in to it. I found it extremely informative and well written. There is a lot of detail, but Lamar does an excellent job of simplifying things. I think just about anyone that is even remotely handy with tools could take this book and build an off the grid cabin which is exactly what I plan to do. Thanks Lamar. By the way, you might want to check out Lamar's videos on youtube, They will give a good idea of what it takes to live off grid.
This book gives great information and directions on living off the grid. I think the instructions are simple to follow and is easy to understand. I recommend this book to anyone just considering living off the grid. I am glad someone living the life finally wrote it all down.. not just a theory book, he practices what he writes about!!!
